Back to Classes

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

On January 21st, just 4 days ago, I started classes again and I have to say that it has been something else. Since I have only classes 3 days a week, it is more convenient and I have actually the end of Thursday to look forward to and not the usual Friday.

I am enjoying my first weekend although tomorrow I have to go to campus and buy a few books for my classes. Hopefully they won’t be too expensive because from past experiences I know that books can cost up to a few hundred dollars.

Back to classes for me.

Shoutcast Testing

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Yesterday I got a shoutcast License from WHMSonic and I have been testing out all of their features as well as setting up pricing for the sale. So far it is going great. I have had it on for a total of 4 hours including yesterday and today running on 64kbps connection and it is smooth. I have also tried it out on 24kbps and it is the same smooth as 64kbps which is amazing.

Hopefully it is ready for live release tomorrow. My co-owner is supposed to be coming over for discussions on plans and pricing and we are just crossing our fingers for the best. Wish us luck.

vBulletin 3.8.0

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Last week the vBulletin team announced their latest stable version of vBulletin which is 3.8.0. There isn’t a lot of changes or updates but it is pretty good from what I’ve tried so far. For the first time it lets you sort out your PMs as well as quick reply to PMs which stops the whole page load.

I don’t plan on upgrading my blog this month. But most likely next month if not then March for sure. They don’t have any significant changes that actually grab my attention or any thing that I actually need so there is no rush, I am happy with 3.7. Let’s hope 4.0 is around the corner because that’s sure to have something that I really really want.

Donate your Car

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

If you are located around the area of Charlotte, North Carolina then you should look for the charlotte nc cars for charity held by Charity Dispatch where they will take donated cars, auction or sell the cars for money in order to help communities set up jobs for people who are suffering as well as help others just to stay alive. If you have your old car lying around in the garage because you got a new car and you are unable to sell your old car, do not just let it sit there and rot away, donate it to Charity Dispatch and you will be likely to save on your taxes next year and you will feel better about what you have done and you know that your car is being taken care of as well.

Visit their web site at CharityDispatch.com and check out their different locations of operation. The only thing that you have to do in the whole process is to call them and tell them that you want to donate your car. They will come by, pick up the car, and then you will get a great tax deduction for your next tax return, that should make you happy.

Plane landed in Hudson River in an Emergency

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Earlier today a very good pilot from US Airways landed a plane safely in the Hudson River here in New York City after birds blew out two engines forcing the whole plane to fail. And please don’t listen to the news reporters who are calling it a crash because it really does make the pilot look bad and in my opinion, he was the hero in all of this.

Everyone is safe and I believe some people were taken to local hospitals but no serious injuries were reported. Below is a portion of one of many articles published already about this incident and once again, NOT A CRASH. You will find that word in the first line of the below article.

NEW YORK - A US Airways jetliner crashed into the frigid Hudson River on Thursday afternoon after a flock of birds apparently disabled both its engines, but rescuers pulled the more than 150 passengers and crew members into boats before the plane sank.

After boats rushed to the rescue, the Federal Aviation Administration said that all passengers on US Airways Flight 1549 were off the plane and safe.

“We do not believe there are any serious injuries,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at a news conference Thursday evening, noting some were taken to hospitals in New Jersey. “The pilot did a masterful job of landing the plane in the river and getting the passengers out.”

FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said the flight had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport en route to Charlotte, N.C., when the crash occurred in the river near 48th Street in New York City.

The plane, an Airbus 320, took off at 3:26 p.m. and went down minutes later, Brown said.

“There were eyewitness reports the plane may have flown into a flock of birds,” Brown said. She added, “right now we don’t have any indication this was anything other than an accident.”

Doug Church, spokesman for the National Air Traffic Controllers Union, said that the pilot reported a “double bird strike” about 30 to 45 seconds after takeoff and said he needed to return to LaGuardia.

The controller instructed the pilot to divert to an airport in Teterboro, N.J., for an emergency landing, Church said.

A passenger who identified himself as Jeff told NBC News the engines blew about 3 minutes into the flight. “Fire started blowing up,” he said. “I thought we would be able to circle around, but the captain said ‘brace for impact.’ … I think the captain did a helluva job.”

The plane was submerged in the icy waters up to the windows. Rescue crews opened the door and pulled passengers in yellow life vests from the plane. Rescue boats and commuter ferry boats that ply the Hudson surrounded the plane, which appeared to be slowly sinking in the near-freezing water. The temperature was around 20 degrees.

Witnesses said the plane’s pilot appeared to guide the plane down.

“I see a commercial airliner coming down, looking like it’s landing right in the water,” said Bob Read, who saw it from his office at the television newsmagazine “Inside Edition.” “This looked like a controlled descent.”

New York City firefighters and the Coast Guard worked to rescue the passengers. The fuselage appeared intact, and the plane appeared to be sitting high in the water well after the crash with rescuers standing on the wings once they reached the site.
